Update of the avalanche report for Saturday 7 December 2024.
The fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.
all day it applies low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
all day, above 2200 meter, we have a wind slab problem. Especially in the aspects North-West to North to North-East.
As a consequence of new snow and a sometimes storm force northwesterly wind, sometimes easily released wind slabs formed at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 2200 m. At elevated altitudes the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent and exist in all aspects. Avalanches are only small but can be released even by a single winter sport participant. The fresh wind slabs are to be avoided in steep terrain.
And now the snowpack:
Over a wide area 5 to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen above approximately 2000 m. The sometimes storm force wind has transported the new snow and, in some cases, old snow as well.
The tendency for Sunday 8 December 2024 indicates an increasing avalanche danger.
Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
