Update of the avalanche report for Saturday 7 December 2024.

The fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.

all day it applies low avalanche danger, so danger level one.

all day, above 2200 meter, we have a wind slab problem. Especially in the aspects North-West to North to North-East.

As a consequence of new snow and a sometimes storm force northwesterly wind, sometimes easily released wind slabs formed at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 2200 m. At elevated altitudes the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent and exist in all aspects. Avalanches are only small but can be released even by a single winter sport participant. The fresh wind slabs are to be avoided in steep terrain. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the field, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

And now the snowpack:

Over a wide area 5 to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen above approximately 2000 m. The sometimes storm force wind has transported the new snow and, in some cases, old snow as well. Faceted weak layers exist in the top section of the snowpack especially on steep shady slopes. In all altitude zones only a little snow is lying. The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. Snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.6: cold, loose snow and wind.

The tendency for Sunday 8 December 2024 indicates an increasing avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
