Avalanche report for Wednesday 11 December 2024.
The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence.
all day it applies low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
all day, above 2200 meter, we have a wind slab problem. Especially in the aspects North-West to North to East.
In the last few days wind slabs formed at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. The mostly small wind slabs are in some cases prone to triggering in particular on northwest to north to east facing aspects above approximately 2200 m. Caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. In high Alpine regions the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent. Avalanches are rather small but can be released even by a single winter sport participant.
And now the snowpack:
The fresh and older wind slabs are lying on soft layers above approximately 2200 m.
The tendency for Thursday 12 December 2024 indicates a steady avalanche danger.
Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
