Update of the avalanche report for Saturday 14 December 2024.

The older wind slabs represent the main danger.

all day it applies above 2400 meter moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.

all day, above 2400 meter, we have a wind slab problem. This in all aspects.

The wind slabs of last week can be released by a single winter sport participant. Caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. In high Alpine regions the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent. In very isolated cases the avalanches in these regions are medium-sized. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised as well in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls.

And now the snowpack:

In some localities 2 to 5 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall above approximately 1000 m. Until Sunday the weather will be cold over a wide area. The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. The old snowpack remains in some cases prone to triggering. The old wind slabs are lying on soft layers above approximately 2400 m. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in particular on shady slopes.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.6: cold, loose snow and wind.

The tendency for Sunday 15 December 2024 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
