Update of the avalanche report for Saturday 14 December 2024.
Thus far only a little snow is lying. Wind slabs require caution.
all day it applies low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
The mostly small wind slabs are in some cases prone to triggering in particular on very steep shady slopes. Caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised as well in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the field, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality.
And now the snowpack:
2 to 5 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall above approximately 1000 m. Until Sunday the weather will be cold over a wide area. The snowpack remains subject to considerable local variations. The snowpack will become in some cases prone to triggering. In some cases the various wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. The old wind slabs are lying on soft layers above approximately 2400 m. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in particular on shady slopes.
We have the following danger patterns: dp.6: cold, loose snow and wind.
The tendency for Sunday 15 December 2024 indicates a steady avalanche danger.
