Avalanche report for Tuesday 17 December 2024.

Wind slabs require caution.

all day it applies low avalanche danger, so danger level one.

all day, above 2200 meter, we have a wind slab problem. This in all aspects.

As a consequence of a sometimes strong wind, wind slabs formed since Sunday. The mostly small wind slabs are in some cases prone to triggering. The wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant. Caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Isolated small moist snow slides and avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming.

And now the snowpack:

In these regions only a little snow is lying. The snowpack remains subject to considerable local variations. In some cases the various wind slabs have bonded still only poorly with the old snowpack. The weather will be very mild. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise to moistening of the snowpack on sunny slopes.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.6: cold, loose snow and wind.

The tendency for Wednesday 18 December 2024 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
