Update of the avalanche report for Wednesday 18 December 2024.
Avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular on very steep north and east facing slopes above approximately 2400 m. As a consequence of solar radiation individual wet and gliding avalanches are possible.
all day it applies above 2400 meter moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
all day, above 2400 meter, we have a wind slab problem. This in all aspects.
Avalanches can in isolated cases be released in the old snowpack and reach medium size. Caution is to be exercised in particular on very steep northwest, north and east facing slopes above approximately 2400 m. Especially slopes adjacent to ridgelines are unfavourable.
And now the snowpack:
Wind slabs are lying on unfavourable layers on steep northwest, north and east facing slopes above approximately 2400 m. Faceted weak layers exist in the centre of the old snowpack, especially on northwest, north and east facing slopes above approximately 2400 m.
The tendency for Thursday 19 December 2024 indicates a steady avalanche danger.
Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
