Avalanche report for Friday 27 December 2024.

Wind slabs and gliding snow require caution.

all day it applies moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two.

all day, above 2200 meter, we have a wind slab problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East. Furthermore, all day, we have a gliding snow problem. Especially in the aspects East to South to West.

The fresh wind slabs can still be released in some cases on very steep west, north and northeast facing slopes above approximately 2200 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. The prevalence of avalanche prone locations and likelihood of triggering will increase with altitude. Avalanches can reach medium size. On steep grassy slopes gliding avalanches are possible, even medium-sized ones. Caution is to be exercised in areas with glide cracks.

And now the snowpack:

In some cases the various wind slabs have bonded still only poorly with each other and the old snowpack. Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the bottom section of the old snowpack above approximately 2200 m. The weather will be mild. The weather conditions will foster a stabilisation of the snow drift accumulations. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to moistening of the snowpack on sunny slopes.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.6: cold, loose snow and wind, dp.2: gliding snow.

The tendency for Saturday 28 December 2024 indicates a decreasing avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
