Avalanche report for Thursday 9 January 2025.
The fresh and older wind slabs of the last few days represent the main danger. Weak layers in the lower part of the snowpack necessitate caution.
all day it applies above 2400 meter considerable avalanche danger, so danger level three, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
all day, above 2400 meter, we have a wind slab problem. Especially in the aspects North-West to North to East.
Furthermore, all day, above 2400 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects North-West to North to North-East.
As a consequence of a strong to storm force southwesterly wind, further wind slabs will form in the course of the day in particular in gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. The wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in particular on northwest to north to east facing aspects. Caution is to be exercised in particular on near-ridge slopes above approximately 2400 m. The avalanche prone locations are sometimes covered with new snow and are difficult to recognise. As a consequence of the sometimes strong southwesterly wind the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent.
And now the snowpack:
Some snow will fall in some regions. As a consequence of the occasionally strong southwesterly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form in the course of the day.
The tendency for Friday 10 January 2025 indicates a steady avalanche danger.
Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
