Avalanche report for Thursday 23 January 2025.

A mostly favourable avalanche situation will prevail. Fresh wind slabs require caution.

all day it applies low avalanche danger, so danger level one.

The small wind slabs can be released in isolated cases on extremely steep shady slopes at elevated altitudes. Caution is to be exercised on near-ridge slopes, as well as in gullies and bowls. The avalanche prone locations are rare and are clearly recognisable to the trained eye. Wind slabs are to be avoided in particular in terrain where there is a danger of falling.

And now the snowpack:

As a consequence of a moderate to strong wind from southerly directions, small wind slabs formed since Wednesday in isolated cases, especially on near-ridge shady slopes. Only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year. Above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. On steep sunny slopes below the tree line hardly any snow is lying. Some rain will fall in some regions. This applies below approximately 2000 m, in particular in the northwest along the border with Vorarlberg and in the Allgäu Alps.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.6: cold, loose snow and wind.

The tendency for Friday 24 January 2025 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
