Avalanche report for Tuesday 11 February 2025.
The new snow and wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence. Weak layers deep in the old snowpack necessitate caution and restraint.
all day it applies moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two.
all day, above 2200 meter, we have a new snow problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East.
Furthermore, all day, above the treeline, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East.
A lot more new snow than expected in the south: Especially in regions exposed to heavier precipitation and above the tree line the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent and the danger is greater. The fresh snow and local wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 2200 m. Winter sport participants can release avalanches in some places, including medium-sized ones. Avalanches can in isolated cases penetrate deep layers and reach quite a large size. Weak layers in the old snowpack are difficult to recognise. The avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular on steep west, north and east facing slopes above the tree line.
And now the snowpack:
In some regions up to 25 cm of snow has fallen. Above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. The wind slabs are lying on soft layers in particular on west to north to east facing aspects above the tree line. The snowpack remains unfavourable also on rather lightly snow-covered shady slopes. In particular slopes that have been little used this winter thus far where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are dangerous.
The tendency for Wednesday 12 February 2025 indicates an increasing avalanche danger.
Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
