Avalanche report for Thursday 6 March 2025.
A generally favourable avalanche situation will prevail.
all day it applies low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
On steep grassy slopes small to medium-sized gliding avalanches are possible. This applies in particular in the west and below approximately 2400 m. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation more wet loose snow avalanches are possible, even medium-sized ones, in particular on very steep sunny slopes. The fresh wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant, but they will be small in most cases. This applies in particular in the east. The avalanche prone locations are rare but are easy to recognise. Such avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on near-ridge shady slopes at elevated altitudes.
And now the snowpack:
The fresh and older wind slabs are lying on soft layers in particular on steep shady slopes. Since Sunday the weather has been mild. As a consequence of mild temperatures and solar radiation a crust formed on the surface at the weekend, especially on sunny slopes. Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be good. Steep sunny slopes, high altitudes: The surface of the snowpack will soften during the day. Only a little snow is now lying on south facing slopes.
The tendency for Friday 7 March 2025 indicates a steady avalanche danger.
