Avalanche report for Monday 17 March 2025.
Wind slabs and gliding snow require caution.
all day it applies above 2400 meter moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
all day, above 2400 meter, we have a wind slab problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to North-East.
Furthermore, all day, below 2400 meter, we have a gliding snow problem. This in all aspects.
Fresh wind slabs are in some cases prone to triggering. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on near-ridge north and west facing slopes above approximately 2400 m. Their prevalence will increase with altitude. Avalanches can in isolated cases reach medium size.
And now the snowpack:
As a consequence of a moderate wind from easterly directions, mostly small wind slabs will form on Monday especially adjacent to ridgelines. Fresh wind slabs are lying on unfavourable layers on steep shady slopes at elevated altitudes. Towards its base, the snowpack is largely stable.
The tendency for Tuesday 18 March 2025 indicates a steady avalanche danger.
Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
