Avalanche forecast for Friday 2 January 2026.
Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found at elevated altitudes. Wind slabs require caution.
all day it applies low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
all day, above 1800 meter, we have a wind slab problem. Especially in the aspects North-West to North to East.
Wind slabs can in isolated cases be released. Caution is to be exercised in particular on very steep shady slopes, and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls at elevated altitudes. In the regions exposed to a lot of wind this applies especially along the border with Italy and along the border with Slovenia. Mostly avalanches are small.
And now the snowpack:
As a consequence of a strengthening wind from southwesterly directions, rather small wind slabs formed. The fresh and older wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack on wind-protected northwest, north and northeast facing slopes.
The tendency for Saturday 3 January 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.
Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
