Avalanche forecast for Tuesday 6 January 2026.

Wind slabs represent the main danger.

all day it applies above 2200 meter moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.

all day, above 2200 meter, we have a wind slab problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East.

The somewhat older wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on wind-protected west, north and east facing slopes above approximately 2200 m. Avalanches can in some cases be released by a single winter sport participant and reach medium size. Caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines, as well as in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. These places are easy to recognise. Isolated whumpfing sounds and shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack can indicate the danger.

And now the snowpack:

The somewhat older wind slabs are lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack in particular on wind-protected west, north and east facing slopes above approximately 2200 m. The old snowpack is faceted. Sunny slopes: The snowpack is faceted and its surface has a crust that is barely capable of bearing a load.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.6: cold, loose snow and wind.

The tendency for Wednesday 7 January 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
