Avalanche forecast for Tuesday 3 February 2026.

The conditions are unfavourable.

all day it applies above 1800 meter considerable avalanche danger, so danger level three, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.

all day, above 1800 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East.

Weak layers in the upper part of the snowpack can be released easily by individual winter sport participants in gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. Avalanches can release deeper layers of the snowpack and reach medium size in particular along the border with Slovenia. This applies especially on west, north and east facing slopes above approximately 1800 m. The number and size of avalanche prone locations will increase with altitude. They are barely recognisable. Whumpfing sounds and the formation of shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack indicate the danger.

And now the snowpack:

In particular along the border with Slovenia 5 to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall above approximately 1200 m. As a consequence of a gusty southerly wind, soft wind slabs will form in the course of the day in gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. These will be deposited on surface hoar in particular on wind-protected shady slopes. The old snowpack is faceted and weak.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.1: deep persistent weak layer, dp.6: cold, loose snow and wind.

The tendency for Wednesday 4 February 2026 indicates an increasing avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
