Weak layers in the old snowpack necessitate caution. This applies in particular at elevated altitudes on steep shady slopes. Fresh wind slabs.
all day it applies above 1800 meter moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
all day, above 1800 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects North-West to North to East.
Avalanches can be released in the weakly bonded old snow, this applies even in case of a single winter sport participant in some cases. Caution is to be exercised in particular on steep northwest, north and east facing slopes above approximately 1800 m. In isolated cases avalanches are medium-sized.
And now the snowpack:
Nockberge Central and Gurktal Alps Central: The sometimes storm force wind will transport the snow. The fresh wind slabs will be deposited on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack at elevated altitudes.
The tendency for Saturday 14 February 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.
