Avalanche forecast for Tuesday 24 February 2026.

For those venturing off piste a dangerous avalanche situation will persist.

all day it applies above the treeline high avalanche danger, so danger level four, below considerable avalanche danger, so danger level three.

all day, above the treeline, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East. Furthermore, all day, below 2000 meter, we have a wet snow problem. This in all aspects.

Attention, a special warning: Even single freeriders can release avalanches easily.

Large quantities of fresh snow and the wind-drifted snow of the last few days are lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack. Areas close to the tree line as well as above the tree line: Winter sport participants can release avalanches easily. Avalanches can in some cases penetrate deep layers and reach large size, in particular on west, north and east facing slopes. The avalanche prone locations are numerous. Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found also on southeast, south and southwest facing slopes above approximately 2600 m. Caution is to be exercised in particular in little used terrain, as well as at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. Remotely triggered avalanches are possible. As a consequence of the rain, the likelihood of wet slab avalanches being released will increase in all aspects below approximately 2000 m. In particular on very steep west, north and east facing slopes the wet avalanches can penetrate even deep layers and reach large size in isolated cases. In addition gliding avalanches are possible. This applies especially on cut and grassy slopes below approximately 2000 m.

And now the snowpack:

Tuesday: Up to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall above approximately 2000 m. Up to intermediate altitudes rain will fall. The wind will be strong to storm force in some cases. The snowpack will be prone to triggering. Large quantities of fresh snow and the wind-drifted snow of the last few days are bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. The various wind slabs have bonded insufficiently with each other and the old snowpack. Avalanche prone weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack on west, north and east facing slopes. The rain gave rise to softening of the snowpack at low and intermediate altitudes.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.7: snow-poor zones in snow-rich surrounding, dp.3: rain.

The tendency for Wednesday 25 February 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
