Avalanche forecast for Thursday 26 February 2026.

Weakly bonded old snow requires caution. Increase in danger of wet avalanches in the course of the day.

earlier in the day it applies above the treeline considerable avalanche danger, so danger level three, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one. later in the day it applies considerable avalanche danger, so danger level three.

earlier in the day, above the treeline, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects North-West to North to North-East. Furthermore, later in the day, above the treeline, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects North-West to North to North-East. Furthermore, later in the day, we have a wet snow problem. Especially in the aspects South-East to South to West.

The new snow and wind slabs are lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack. Even single winter sport participants can release avalanches in some places. In particular shady slopes are dangerous, especially in areas close to the tree line, as well as above the tree line. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation loose snow avalanches are to be expected as the day progresses. This applies in particular on steep sunny slopes. In addition gliding avalanches are possible. This applies especially on cut and grassy slopes.

And now the snowpack:

On Thursday it will be very mild over a wide area. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften during the day. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to extreme and thorough wetting of the snowpack in particular on steep sunny slopes. Shady slopes: The snowpack remains prone to triggering in some places. Large quantities of fresh snow and the wind-drifted snow of the last few days are bonding only slowly with the old snowpack in particular on shady slopes. As a consequence of mild temperatures the snow drift accumulations stabilised.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.1: deep persistent weak layer, dp.10: springtime scenario.

The tendency for Friday 27 February 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
