Avalanche forecast for Wednesday 11 March 2026.

Weakly bonded old snow requires caution. Slight increase in danger of moist avalanches in the course of the day.

all day it applies moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two.

all day, above 2000 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East. Furthermore, all day, below 2200 meter, we have a wet snow problem. Especially in the aspects East to South to West.

Winter sport participants can release avalanches in isolated cases. These can reach large size. The avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular on very steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes above approximately 2000 m and on very steep west and east facing slopes above approximately 2200 m. Caution is to be exercised in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. As the day progresses the likelihood of moist slab avalanches being released will increase on very steep west and east facing slopes below approximately 2200 m. Caution is to be exercised in particular in areas where the snow cover is rather shallow.

And now the snowpack:

Distinct weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack on west, north and east facing slopes, in particular above approximately 2000 m. Towards its surface, the snowpack consists of faceted crystals, especially on shady slopes at elevated altitudes. Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be severely restricted. As a consequence of high relative humidity the snowpack can not consolidate, especially below approximately 2200 m. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface. This applies at high altitude.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.7: snow-poor zones in snow-rich surrounding, dp.10: springtime scenario.

The tendency for Thursday 12 March 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
