Avalanche forecast for Friday 20 March 2026.
Wind slabs and weakly bonded old snow require caution.
all day it applies above the treeline moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
all day, above the treeline, we have a wind slab problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East.
Furthermore, all day, above 2000 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East.
The fresh and older wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on northwest to north to northeast facing aspects above approximately 2000 m. Avalanches can in isolated cases be released in the old snowpack and reach medium size on very steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes.
And now the snowpack:
As a consequence of a sometimes strong wind from variable directions, sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs formed in the last few days. The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack.
The tendency for Saturday 21 March 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.
Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
