Avalanche forecast for Thursday 26 March 2026.

Fresh wind slabs are to be avoided.

all day it applies above 1600 meter moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.

all day, above 1600 meter, we have a wind slab problem. This in all aspects. Furthermore, all day, above 1900 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East.

Wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in all aspects. Avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. Mostly avalanches are medium-sized. In very isolated cases avalanches can also penetrate near-ground layers of the snowpack. Caution is to be exercised in particular on very steep west, north and east facing slopes above approximately 1900 m. Especially transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack are unfavourable. Individual natural avalanches are not entirely ruled out.

And now the snowpack:

In some regions 10 to 20 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall. The wind will be strong to storm force. The northwesterly wind will transport the new snow. Wind slabs will form. The new snow and wind slabs will be deposited on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack above the tree line. The old snowpack will be weakly bonded, especially on west, north and east facing slopes above approximately 1900 m.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.6: cold, loose snow and wind, dp.1: deep persistent weak layer.

The tendency for Friday 27 March 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
