Avalanche forecast for Thursday 26 March 2026.
Outside marked and open pistes a precarious avalanche situation will prevail. Significant increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of new snow and strong wind.
all day it applies above the treeline considerable avalanche danger, so danger level three, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
all day, above the treeline, we have a wind slab problem. This in all aspects.
Furthermore, all day, above 2200 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East.
Attention, a special warning: Natural avalanches are to be expected.
The fresh snow and in particular the extensive wind slabs that are forming in all aspects are very prone to triggering above the tree line. These can be released in near-surface layers and reach medium size. Avalanches can also penetrate near-ground layers of the snowpack and reach large size on west, north and east facing slopes.
And now the snowpack:
30 to 40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall. The wind will be storm force. The northwesterly wind will transport the new snow significantly. Deep wind slabs will form.
The tendency for Friday 27 March 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.
Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
