Update of the avalanche forecast for Thursday 26 March 2026.
An unfavourable avalanche situation will prevail. Wind slabs and weakly bonded old snow require caution.
all day it applies above 1600 meter considerable avalanche danger, so danger level three, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.
all day, above 1600 meter, we have a wind slab problem. This in all aspects.
Furthermore, all day, above 1900 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East.
Wind slabs are prone to triggering in all aspects above approximately 1600 m. These can be released in near-surface layers. Avalanches can in isolated cases penetrate near-ground layers of the snowpack and reach medium size on west, north and east facing slopes.
And now the snowpack:
10 to 20 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell in the past few hours. In particular in the Karwanks Central and in the Karwanks East up to 10 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall.
The tendency for Friday 27 March 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.
Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
