Avalanche forecast for Saturday 28 March 2026.

Outside marked and open pistes an unfavourable avalanche situation will prevail.

all day it applies above the treeline considerable avalanche danger, so danger level three, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one.

all day, above the treeline, we have a wind slab problem. This in all aspects. Furthermore, all day, above 2200 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East.

The extensive wind slabs are very prone to triggering in all aspects above the tree line. These can be released in near-surface layers and reach medium size. Avalanches can also penetrate near-ground layers of the snowpack and reach large size on west, north and east facing slopes. Whumpfing sounds and the formation of shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack and fresh avalanches serve as an alarm indicating the danger. As a consequence of solar radiation loose snow avalanches are possible. This applies in particular on very steep slopes in places that are protected from the wind.

And now the snowpack:

20 to 50 cm of snow fell in the last few days. The wind was violent in some cases. The northwesterly wind has transported the new snow and, in some cases, old snow as well. Extensive wind slabs formed. The new snow and wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack above the tree line. The old snowpack will be weakly bonded, especially on west, north and east facing slopes above approximately 2200 m, and on south facing slopes at elevated altitudes.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.6: cold, loose snow and wind, dp.1: deep persistent weak layer.

The tendency for Sunday 29 March 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
