Avalanche forecast for Sunday 5 April 2026.

Weakly bonded old snow requires caution. Increase in danger of moist and wet avalanches in the course of the day.

earlier in the day it applies above 2200 meter moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one. later in the day it applies moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two.

earlier in the day, above 2200 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East. Furthermore, later in the day, above 2200 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East. Furthermore, later in the day, below 2800 meter, we have a wet snow problem. Especially in the aspects East to South to West.

Winter sport participants can release avalanches only in isolated cases. They can be triggered in the old snowpack and reach medium size. Caution is to be exercised in particular on very steep west, north and east facing slopes above approximately 2200 m, and on south facing slopes in high Alpine regions. Especially transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack are unfavourable. Avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. As the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation there will be a gradual increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches. More frequent wet loose snow avalanches are to be expected, but they will be mostly small. This applies on extremely steep sunny slopes. Backcountry tours should be concluded early.

And now the snowpack:

The gusty wind has transported the fresh and old snow significantly. Hard wind slabs formed. These are lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack in particular on west, north and east facing slopes above approximately 2200 m. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to significant moistening of the snowpack. The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface. In particular on steep sunny slopes at low and intermediate altitudes hardly any snow is lying.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.7: snow-poor zones in snow-rich surrounding, dp.10: springtime scenario.

The tendency for Monday 6 April 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
