Avalanche forecast for Sunday 5 April 2026.

Weak layers in the upper part of the snowpack can be released in some places by people. Rapid increase in danger of moist and wet avalanches in the course of the day.

earlier in the day it applies moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two. later in the day it applies above 2200 meter moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two, below considerable avalanche danger, so danger level three.

earlier in the day, above 2200 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East. Furthermore, earlier in the day, below 2400 meter, we have a wet snow problem. Especially in the aspects East to South to West. Furthermore, later in the day, above 2200 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East. Furthermore, later in the day, below 2800 meter, we have a wet snow problem. Especially in the aspects East to South to West.

Avalanches can in some cases be released in near-surface layers and reach medium size. Avalanche prone locations are to be found especially on very steep west, north and northeast facing slopes between approximately 2200 and 2800 m. Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found also on very steep sunny slopes in high Alpine regions. Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found also on very steep slopes in areas close to the tree line. This applies along the border with Bavaria. The avalanche prone locations are difficult to recognise. Whumpfing sounds and the formation of shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack can indicate the danger. Avalanches can in very isolated cases penetrate near-ground layers of the snowpack and reach large size. As the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation there will be an appreciable increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches. More frequent wet loose snow avalanches are to be expected, in particular medium-sized ones. This applies on extremely steep sunny slopes. Individual moist slab avalanches are possible, in particular medium-sized ones. This applies in particular on very steep west and east facing slopes between approximately 2200 and 2800 m. In addition the danger of gliding avalanches will increase as the day progresses. This applies on grassy slopes. Backcountry tours should be concluded early.

And now the snowpack:

Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the top section of the old snowpack, especially on west, north and northeast facing slopes between approximately 2200 and 2800 m, and on sunny slopes in high Alpine regions, also on west, north and east facing slopes in areas close to the tree line. This applies in particular along the border with Bavaria. Towards its base, the snowpack consists of faceted crystals, in particular on west, north and east facing slopes at elevated altitudes. The surface of the snowpack will soften quickly. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to gradual and thorough wetting of the snowpack.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.4: cold following warm / warm following cold, dp.10: springtime scenario.

The tendency for Monday 6 April 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
