Avalanche forecast for Friday 10 April 2026.

From early morning the likelihood of wet avalanches being released will increase quickly. Weakly bonded old snow requires caution.

all day it applies moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two.

all day, we have a wet snow problem. This in all aspects. Furthermore, all day, above 2200 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East.

As a consequence of warming during the day, the likelihood of moist and wet avalanches being released will increase significantly in particular on steep sunny slopes. This applies in all aspects at intermediate and high altitudes, and on steep south facing slopes also in high Alpine regions. Wet avalanches can occur easily or triggered naturally. These can also penetrate down to the ground and reach large size in isolated cases. Avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular at the base of rock walls and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. Especially transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack are unfavourable.

And now the snowpack:

Older wind slabs are lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack in particular on west, north and east facing slopes at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. Outgoing longwave radiation during the night was good over a wide area. The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust only at high altitudes and will already soften in the late morning. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to increasing and thorough wetting of the snowpack. On very steep sunny slopes and at the base of rock walls the snowpack will soften quickly. On sunny slopes at low and intermediate altitudes hardly any snow is lying.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.10: springtime scenario, dp.1: deep persistent weak layer.

The tendency for Saturday 11 April 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
