Avalanche forecast for Wednesday 22 April 2026.

Weakly bonded old snow and wet snow require caution.

earlier in the day it applies above 2500 meter moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two, below low avalanche danger, so danger level one. later in the day it applies moderate avalanche danger, so danger level two.

earlier in the day, above 2500 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects North-West to North to North-East. Furthermore, later in the day, below 2500 meter, we have a wet snow problem. Especially in the aspects West to North to East. Furthermore, later in the day, above 2500 meter, we have a persistent weak layer problem. Especially in the aspects North-West to North to North-East.

Slight increase in danger of wet avalanches as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. Wet avalanches can in isolated cases be released by a single winter sport participant. In very isolated cases these can release the weakly bonded old snow as well and reach large size. This applies on very steep shady slopes below approximately 2500 m. Dry avalanches can additionally be released, even by small loads in isolated cases, especially on very steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes above approximately 2500 m. Especially transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack are unfavourable. The avalanche prone locations are difficult to recognise.

And now the snowpack:

Evening and first half of night: Over a wide area a mostly overcast night. Second half of night: A generally clear night. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften during the day. The snowpack is moist, in particular on sunny slopes in all altitude zones, as well as on west, north and east facing slopes below approximately 2500 m. Steep west, north and east facing slopes: Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the old snowpack at elevated altitudes.

We have the following danger patterns: dp.10: springtime scenario, dp.1: deep persistent weak layer.

The tendency for Thursday 23 April 2026 indicates a steady avalanche danger.

Have a nice day and don't forget to be careful!
