<caaml:comment>As a result of strong-to-storm strength westerly winds, conditions on Friday will be variable. Heavy rain showers or snow showers up to 1000-1500 m. The avalanche situation is tense.

<caaml:wxSynopsisHighlights>Alpine weather forecast (ZAMG-Weather Service Innsbruck)</caaml:wxSynopsisHighlights>
<caaml:wxSynopsisComment>Stormy winds, heavy and persistent snowfall out of the thick fog, focal point in the western barrier cloud regions. The fresh snow will be intensively transported by winds. Temperature at 2000 m: -2 degrees. Westerly winds will reach gale strength.</caaml:wxSynopsisComment>
<caaml:snowpackStructureHighlights>Snow cover / General info</caaml:snowpackStructureHighlights>
<caaml:snowpackStructureComment>Between Wednesday morning and this morning there has been 25 cm of fresh snow registered, transported by strong to very strong westerly winds, generating wide-ranging snowdrifts, more frequent with ascending altitude. They are trigger sensitive! They were deposited atop cold, loose snowpack layers or soft drifts from previous days. Bonding worsens with ascending altitude. Older drifts are covered. Surface hoar or faceted crystals are evident on steep slopes at high altitude. Snowdrift accumulations will continue to grow today, winds will be strong, snowfall will be heavy. Rainfall at 1200-1900 m today will weaken the snowpack at low and intermediate altitudes.</caaml:snowpackStructureComment>
<caaml:travelAdvisoryHighlights>Avalanche danger assessment</caaml:travelAdvisoryHighlights>
<caaml:travelAdvisoryComment>Considerable avalanche danger prevails at all altitudes. The main danger at high altitudes stems from fresh snow and snowdrift accumulations. New drifts are prone to triggering and can be unleashed by one single skier. If avalanches fracture in the old snow they can grow to large size. Avalanche prone locations are found in wind-impacted steep terrain, behind protruberances and in wind-loaded gullies and bowls. They will increase in size and frequency over the course of the day with further snowfall and wind. Based on the amounts of expected fresh now, Danger Level 4 (“high”) could be reached today. Naturally triggered avalanches, even large-sized ones, are possible in steep terrain, particularly where snowfall is heaviest. Avalanche danger will also increase at low and intermediate altitude today due to rainfall and higher temperatures: more wet-snow and glide-snow releases can be expected. In isolated cases they can be large. Exposed transportation routes are at risk.</caaml:travelAdvisoryComment>
