<caaml:comment>Quite mild air masses are moving into the Alps, bringing conditions for a big thaw. Weak perturbances will deliver some precipitation today and tomorrow. The avalanche situation will gradually ease.

<caaml:wxSynopsisComment>The nighttime rain is withdrawing, clouds and residual fog will persist and create diffuse light conditions, hamper visibility. In the latter part of the day, rainfall will recommence, snowfall higher up (snowfall level at nearly 2000 m and rising). Temperatures will rise slightly: at 2000 m, from -1 to +2 degrees. Brisk to strong westerly winds.</caaml:wxSynopsisComment>
<caaml:snowpackStructureHighlights>Snow cover / General info</caaml:snowpackStructureHighlights>
<caaml:snowpackStructureComment>Yesterday there was 5 cm of fresh snow registered above 1500 m in the southern regions, up to 15 cm amid strong wind in the northern barrier cloud regions. Wide-ranging snowdrifts generated during the last few days are still prone to triggering in places. In ridgeline terrain, huge cornices have formed in ridgeline terrain. As a result of warmth and solar radiation the snowpack has consolidated. The snowpack at intermediate and low altitudes is often moist and the water frequently penetrates down to the ground. In these places the snowpack can glide away over the ground. Below 1000 m the snowpack already manifests bare patches.</caaml:snowpackStructureComment>
<caaml:travelAdvisoryHighlights>Avalanche danger assessment</caaml:travelAdvisoryHighlights>
<caaml:travelAdvisoryComment>Considerable avalanche danger prevails. Main danger: recently generated snowdrifts. These are prone to triggering, even the weight of one single skier can trigger a release. Avalanche prone locations are found in steep wind-loaded terrain, also distant from ridgelines, behind protruberances, in gullies, bowls and transitions from shallow to deep snow above 1800 m. Caution is urged near large cornices which have formed in recent days. At low and intermediate altitudes, wet snow is the main problem. Due to heavy rain and warmth, medium-to-large sized wet-snow and glide-snow avalanches can be expected. Exposed transportation routes are at risk.</caaml:travelAdvisoryComment>
