The snowpack is well consolidated and stable. At its base above 2000 m are layers of large, faceted crystals which in snow profile analysis seem not to threaten. The snowpack at intermediate altitudes is moist at ground level, only in forested regions is it thoroughly wet. Elsewhere it is stable, largely capable of bearing loads. Below 1600 m the ground is becoming bare on sunny slopes. No significant change in avalanche danger is expected in the next few days. Due to the hardened surfaces, the dangers of falling need special caution in steep terrain in all aspects. At intermediate altitudes, a glide-snow problem threatens isolated, very steep grass-covered slopes and forest clearances. Small-to-medium glide snow avalanches can trigger naturally at any time of day or night. Glide cracks are indicators of potential danger.
