Avalanche prone locations are found with ascending altitude primarily in steep ridgeline terrain, behind protruberances, in freshly wind-loaded gullies and bowls. Both fresh and older snowdrift accumulations are prone to triggering there. Size and frequency of danger zones increase with ascending altitude as the day unfolds. Small-to-medium slab avalanches can be triggered by the weight of one single skier. Activities in backcountry require experience in assessing avalanche risks on-site.
