In the early morning a favourable avalanche situation will prevail. Slight increase in danger of wet avalanches in the course of the day
Edition: 16.4.2022, 17:00 / Next update: 17.4.2022, 18:00
Snowpack
South-facing slopes are thoroughly wet far up into high alpine regions; west-facing and east-facing slopes are wet below approximately 3000 m; north-facing slopes below approximately 2400 m.
As a result of the clear nocturnal skies and low temperatures, a snowpack surface crust will form over widespread areas which is capable of bearing loads. This will stabilise the snowpack. During the course of the day, the crust will soften and thaw and subsequently the danger of wet-snow avalanches will increase somewhat.
Isolated danger zones for dry-snow avalanches are still to be found on very steep north-facing slopes above approximately 2400 m more than anywhere else.

As a consequence of moderate northerly winds, it will be cool. The avalanche situation is favourable in early morning. As a result of solar radiation and daytime warming the danger of wet-snow avalanches will increase during the course of each day. Backcountry tours and ascents to mountain refuges should be launched early in the day, brought to an end early in the day.
Isolated danger zones for dry-snow avalanches are still to be found on very steep north-facing slopes above approximately 2400 m more than anywhere else.
