HIGH
CONSEQUENCES FOR PERSONS OUTSIDE SECURED ZONES
Unfavourable conditions.Extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger is required. Remain in moderately steep terrain / heed avalanche run out zones
SNOWPACK STABILITY
The snowpack is poorly bonded on most steep slopes*.
AVALANCHE TRIGGERING PROBABILITY
Triggering is likely, even from low additional loads**, on many steep slopes*. In some cases, numerous large and often very large natural avalanches can be expected.

CONSIDERABLE
CONSEQUENCES FOR PERSONS OUTSIDE SECURED ZONES
Partially unfavourable conditions.Experience in the assessment of avalanche danger is required. Steep slopes of indicated aspects and altitude zones should be avoided if possible
SNOWPACK STABILITY
The snowpack is moderately to poorly bonded on many steep slopes*.
AVALANCHE TRIGGERING PROBABILITY
Triggering is possible, even from low additional loads**, particularly on the indicated steep slopes*. In certain situations some large, and in isolated cases very large natural avalanches are possible.

MODERATE
CONSEQUENCES FOR PERSONS OUTSIDE SECURED ZONES
Mostly favourable conditions. Careful route selection, especially on steep slopes of indicated aspects and altitude zones.
SNOWPACK STABILITY
The snowpack is only moderately well bonded on some steep slopes*; otherwise well bonded in general.
AVALANCHE TRIGGERING PROBABILITY
Triggering is possible, primarily from high additional loads**, particularly on the indicated steep slopes*. Very large natural avalanches are unlikely

LOW
CONSEQUENCES FOR PERSONS OUTSIDE SECURED ZONES
Generally safe conditions.
SNOWPACK STABILITY
The snowpack is well bonded and stable in general.
AVALANCHE TRIGGERING PROBABILITY
Triggering is generally possible only from high additional loads** in isolated areas of very steep, extreme terrain*. Only small and medium natural avalanches are possible.

* The avalanche-prone locations are described in greater detail in the avalanche bulletin (altitude, slope aspect, type of terrain).
• moderately steep terrain: slopes shallower than about 30 degrees
• steep slopes: slopes steeper than about 30 degrees
• very steep, extreme terrain: particularly adverse terrain related to slope angle (more than about 40 degrees), terrain profile, proximity to ridge, smoothness of underlying ground surface

** Additional loads:
• low: individual skier / snowboarder, riding softly, not falling; snowshoer; group with good spacing (minimum 10m) keeping distances
• high: two or more skiers / snowboarders etc. without good spacing (or without intervals); snowmachine; explosives
natural: without human influence

SLAB AVALANCHES
DANGER DESCRIPTION
Above and at the treeline, on North-Eastern areas behind slopes change, unstable wind slabs will become even larger with strong winds; on the same slopes in isolated cases small unstable hard slabs are recorded on top of persistent weak layers and slab avalanches can be triggered. Locally, avalanches can involve the weak layers even deeper and increasing in size. On very sheltered slopes is still possible to hit stones either skiing or if caught in an avalanche.
TRAVEL AND TERRAIN ADVICE
The wind slabs are evident and should be avoided, danger points are linked to the presence of superficial hard slabs mostly on Eastern and Southern slopes. Approach steep slopes, passages from thin to thick snowpack, and slopes change with caution. Whumpfing sounds are clear danger signs. Pay attention to the strong winds at high elevations.
SNOW COVER CHARACTERISTICS
Above the treeline, in most wind sheltered areas there are 5/15 cm of new snow, while in other areas the snowpack is strongly wind-affected, with old slabs and wind-drifted accumulation behind slope’s change that stand on persistent weak layers. Ridges are generally completely eroded. On few very sheltered slopes facing North a low cohesion snowpack is still present. On southern slopes the snowpack is composed by a single melt-freeze crust, while on the other exposures its present only near the surface. Below the treeline the thickness of the snowpack is poor and on North is mainly composed by loose snow.
