A thin melt-freeze crust forms at night, which quickly softens again during the day. On north-facing slopes at high altitudes, there may still be isolated layers of faceted crystals deep in the snowpack. At the highest summits and areas adjacent to the ridgeline, crest or summit there is some wind slab in places. There is hardly any snow on the north side below 1600 metres and on the entire south side."
