Danger level
Avalanche Problem
Wind-drifted snow above the treeline, N-NE-E-W-NW
Wind slabs at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions.
The clearly visible wind slabs of the last few days must be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on west to north to east facing aspects above the tree line. They can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases. Adjacent to ridgelines avalanches can be triggered in deep layers of the snowpack and reach medium size in some cases. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls.
Snowpack
The fresh snow and wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack in particular on shady slopes. Faceted weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular here. The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations.
Tendency
Fresh wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence. Decrease in danger of dry avalanches.
