Avalanche Problem
New snow
2200m
Wind-drifted snow
2800m

Loose snow avalanches are to be expected. Fresh wind slabs require caution.

In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation numerous small to medium-sized loose snow avalanches are to be expected above approximately 2200 m, in the event of prolonged bright spells especially on extremely steep slopes. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

As a consequence of new snow and a moderate to strong southwesterly wind, mostly small wind slabs formed in particular in high Alpine regions. The fresh wind slabs are in some cases prone to triggering, in particular on steep shady slopes. The avalanche prone locations are to be found especially adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas above approximately 2800 m. They are to be avoided in very steep terrain.

Snowpack

dp.6: cold, loose snow and wind

Over a wide area 10 to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Saturday. The fresh snow and the mostly small wind slabs formed during the snowfall are lying on soft layers in particular on steep shady slopes. These are in some cases still prone to triggering at elevated altitudes.
The weather effects will bring about a weakening of the near-surface layers as the day progresses.
The old snowpack will be in most cases stable. In all regions only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year. At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

Some snow will fall. The avalanche danger will persist.

Danger level

Low avalanche danger will be encountered over a wide area.

Fresh wind slabs are small and can only be released in isolated cases. Such avalanche prone locations are to be found on very steep shady slopes at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions and adjacent to ridgelines.
In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation small moist loose snow avalanches are possible.
Isolated mostly small gliding avalanches are possible on steep grassy slopes.

Snowpack

5 to 15 cm of snow has fallen since Saturday. The wind was strong in some regions.
In all regions only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year. At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

Low avalanche danger will persist.
