The prevalence of the avalanche prone locations will increase until late in the night.
Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack. The weather report and anticipated change in the avalanche danger are uncertain. The avalanche danger should be investigated very thoroughly in the relevant locality. Above approximately 2000 m medium-sized wet avalanches are to be expected as the day progresses.
With the change in wind direction, the avalanche activity will appreciably increase. Whumpfing sounds are a clear indication of a weakly bonded snowpack. Faceted weak layers exist deeper in the old snowpack in all aspects.
Snowpack
dp.1: deep persistent weak layer dp.7: snow-poor zones in snow-rich surrounding
Shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack and whumpfing sounds serve as an alarm indicating the danger.
Tendency
Fresh avalanches and whumpfing sounds are a clear indication.
